Why Do We Need Change in Preconstruction Planning and Estimating?

What is driving changes in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry?  Construction professionals are tasked to do more with less, including mitigating risks and delivering accurate real-time data.

Beck Technology facilitated a workshop entitled, “Why Do We Need Change?,” focused on understanding the changing landscape and demands for preconstruction planning and estimating in the A/E/C industry. The event was held in conjunction with the Advancing Building Estimation 2017 conference.

This discussion about preconstruction and construction changes was led by industry experts, including Ray MillerAndy Leek, Director of VDC at Paric Corporation; and Brent Pilgrim, National Director of Preconstruction at The Beck Group; along with Beck Technology’s COO Stewart Carroll and CTO Michael Boren.

Ray discussed why the industry is changing and shared the story of Balfour Beatty realizing change is needed to continue to grow, though implementing change can be difficult. Andy and Brent discussed how their companies are going through the process and share success stories as well as lessons learned. Then, the speakers lead the audience in discussions on how our industry will evolve and adjust to changes that are fast becoming the norm.

This video features the three main speakers who shared insights on introducing a common estimating platform in their organizations. Each speaker addressed the:
- Impetus for change
- Overall goals and requirements
- Implementation steps
- Lessons learned

The speakers hailed from Balfour Beatty Construction Services US, The Beck Group, and PARIC Corporation. Beyond the speaker presentations, the three experts fielded attendee Q&As, also included in this video recap.
