Beck Technology Offers Discounted Academic Licensing

What is academic licensing and why does it matter to you? Let’s dive in for a closer look.

For our flagship product, DESTINI Estimator, we provide licenses to companies who choose to purchase this software. These licenses enable users to have full access to the software and its features after they download it to their desktop. However, typically Estimator licenses come with a purchase of Estimator and its support and implementation services. Additionally, we don’t usually offer just one or two licenses on their own; traditionally, Beck Technology is a B2B software-as-a-service company, not at B2C.

Beck Technology offers an academic license to help prepare students for a career in preconstruction.

But here at Beck Technology, we believe that it’s incredibly important to invest in the future. And part of investing in the future means focusing some of our efforts and resources into those who will play a large role in shaping the trajectory of the construction industry: college kids who are dedicating four years to pursue a career either in the field or the office.

This is why we’ve partnered with several universities to offer academic licensing, for the purposes of student and teaching use. Beck Technology has always valued support from the academic universe, and when DESTINI Estimator first came out, licenses were offered to those working or studying at universities not only to encourage an early interest in preconstruction but also to help suggest new features for DESTINI Estimator as well as find and report bugs.

Although Estimator has come a long way since those early days, we still offer heavily discounted licenses to universities to honor our mission of revolutionizing the construction industry and changing the world.

If you’re lucky enough to be teaching in a construction-related field, here’s why we think it’s crucial for you to snag an academic license of Estimator for yourself and your students.

  • Staying on top of the latest in precon tech tools
  • Creating the next generation of estimators
  • Building relationships with potential employers
  • Additional skills

1). Staying on top of the latest in precon tech tools

Utilizing a technology that is constantly being updated and refined can help both you and your class stay in touch with the latest industry knowledge. It can also give you better access to movers and shakers in the construction world, which is beneficial for networking, interviews, and projects.

2). Creating the next generation of estimators

By using programs like DESTINI Estimator, students can get a better grasp of what preconstruction truly means and determine if it is a good fit for them.

One of the greatest struggles of preconstruction is attracting and retaining talent. This is a common enough issue that we have several other blog posts and infographics around the problem. Part of what has created that problem is the inaccurate but common view of preconstruction: people often see preconstruction as something you only do once you’ve finished your time in the field, and that it’s a boring desk job with ridiculous hours. While that might have been true once upon a time, nowadays preconstruction is much more than “just” crunching numbers and involves a lot of intense data analysis. But because this perception is so prevalent, it’s often difficult to market preconstruction as a viable career to those just entering the industry.

This is why it’s critical for students to be exposed to preconstruction and its tools and community before they launch their careers. By using programs like DESTINI Estimator, people can get a better grasp of what preconstruction truly means and determine if it might be a good fit for them.

3). Building relationships with potential employers

Taking advantage of DESTINI Estimator’s academic licenses can help you find potential new employers for your students. This is critical, especially these days when the job market is tougher than ever. Building relationships with other construction companies can not only help secure jobs for college graduates, but it can also open them up to internships and similar experiences to help them decide how they want to navigate their journey into the working world.

4). Additional skills

Last but definitely not least, being able to explore an estimating tool like DESTINI Estimator can prepare students for similar tasks they may need to do in their future roles. It gives them a space where they can make a few mistakes without it impacting a project’s bottom line.
